Does anyone know who painted the abstract in Don’s new apt season 5? The first one shown in this sequence – light blue square with light colors??
And does anyone know if u can buy replicas or prints of these paintings?

The mostly white, geometric painting looks like a Hans Hofmann, although his work tends to be much more colorful. Several of these seem like artists emulating Hofmann, or artists who are supposedly students of Hofmann. He had numerous well known students: Helen Frankenthaler, Red Grooms, Alfred Jensen, Wolf Kahn, Lee Krasner, Louise Nevelson, and Frank Stella. Look for early paintings by them while they were studying with Hofmann – maybe you’d find something similar. In general, many of the paintings on Mad Men seem like Abstract Expressionist paintings of the era – except the Op Art painting (Riley) and Mondrian’s Tree.

The first painting in the sequence looks like it could be a Jan Wunderman. The size is right and it has the same “feel” as one I own.
